Freemasonry

Freemasonry is founded upon three principal tenets, which are Brotherly Love, Relief, and Truth. These principles guide a Mason’s conduct toward his fellow men and society as a whole.

Lodges of Symbolic or Craft Masonry work in three degrees: Entered Apprentice, Fellow Craft, and Master Mason. Cervantes Lodge No. 5 confers these degrees according to rituals of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, a historic rite of Freemasonry that emphasizes philosophical instruction and continuity with earlier Masonic traditions. Each degree offers a unique experience which inculcates moral lessons and philosophy through allegory and symbolism.

While the moral teachings of Freemasonry are universal, the language and rituals through which those teachings are conveyed have historically varied. Cervantes Lodge No. 5 conducts its degree work in Spanish, continuing a tradition that has shaped its identity for almost two centuries.
